BILL HAMMONS' GUIDE TO BOULDER, COLORADO AND BEYOND

Folsom Field

Folsom Field, first built in 1924 and expanded over the years, is named for legendary CU football coach Fred G. Folsom. Folsom became coach in 1895 and instituted a rigorous training program on a rock-filled dirt field (Boulder didn't get its name for nothing). CU became the Colorado Football Association Champions in 1896 and Folsom maintained a 78-23-2 record during his 15 years of coaching CU teams (not bad for a school that lost its first home game 103 to 0).
