Clear Creek County, Colorado

Clear Creek County includes the communities of Georgetown and Idaho Springs.

Clear Creek County, Colorado was named after Clear Creek, which runs from the Continental Divide through the county. As of the year 2000, the population of Clear Creek County was 9,322. Clear Creek's seat is Georgetown.

Clear Creek was one of the original 17 counties of Colorado created by the state legislature on November 1, 1861. It and Gilpin County are the only two original counties to remain with their borders unchanged. Idaho Springs was originally the county seat, but the county government was moved to Georgetown in 1867.
