Michael Innis didn’t seem at all surprised by the presence of an attractive younger woman standing at the head of his apartment’s parking space. “And you must be Sarah Breaux.”
Sarah did her best to hide her surprise. “I am. You got my message.”
“I did, and I imagine you’re trying to find Ingram Morris’s long lost love.”
“Right to the point. Any idea who that might be?”
“No.” Innis slammed his car door shut after retrieving his briefcase. “But maybe we could discuss theories over dinner.”
Sarah dared a glance at Innis’s balding skull, considered his mysterious status as single, and decided that “dinner” would not be worth it in any which way. “No thanks. I need to get back on the road.”

The drive to Midway, Texas along the waters of the Colorado River did not take Sarah long, and she was checking into the motel offering free wireless Internet before dark. A quick check of an online class roster, research, and a phone call, and Sarah Breaux had an appointment with a one Rachel Lewis (née Mueller) the next morning.

“Around back ”
Sarah jumped at the distant, shouted response to her knock on Lewis’s door, walking around back to where a comely blonde trio of mother and daughters sat on a quilt in the warm sunshine. “Rachel?”
“Sarah Breaux.” Broader smile. “Good morning ”
