Dacono, Colorado was first established in 1906 as a coal mining town, was platted (ie, its first streets were laid out) in 1907, and was incorporated on May 21, 1908. Charles Baum named the town by using the first two letters of the first names of three local women (presumably his daughters): Daisy Baum, Cora Van Vorhies, and Nora Brooks.
Dacono is, along with its sister cities of Frederick and
Firestone, a rapidly growing community (the three communities and
their environs in southwestern Weld County are often referred to as the "Tri-Town Area" when not referred to as Carbon Valley). Dacono has
approximately 3,700 residents as of 2006.
