Gilpin County, Colorado

Gilpin County includes the community of Central City.

Gilpin County was named after Colonel William Gilpin, the first governor of the Territory of Colorado. Gilpin County and Clear Creek counties are the only two original counties in the state of Colorado to retain their borders unchanged. Gilpin had a population of 4,757 in the year 2000, and its county seat is Central City. Central City, along with adjoining Black Hawk, is known for its limited-stakes gambling casinos.
