BILL HAMMONS' AMERICAN POLITICS GUIDE: TOTAL POLITICS

How to Use a Teleprompter

A teleprompter is a device which scrolls text across a tv camera screen under manual control in an easy-to-read format.

But take it from someone who's read from a teleprompter more than once: it's not as easy as you might think. The clip below (where, incidentally, I immediately followed John Hickenlooper, the man who is now Colorado's Governor) is a better performance than my first appearance. While my eyes aren't so obviously tracking the teleprompter's text this time around in a back-and-forth motion, my eyes are still a little too glued to the screen.

The best remedy for this is practice, practice, practice, including the practice of knowing your text by heart so that you can focus more on the audience behind the camera.
