How to Petition for Office in a Political Campaign
In 2008, I successfully petitioned onto the General Election ballot with 899 valid voter signatures (out of 1,200+ signatures gathered). And that was as
a third-party candidate (my organization has been officially recognized by the State of Colorado ever since).
As with anything else in politics, the presentation of your idea is just as important as the idea itself. A supporter's pitch of "Would you like more
choice on the ballot?" was not so successful. The question "Support a Balanced Budget Amendment?" was much more successful; in fact, often signers at
King Soopers, Safeway and elsewhere wouldn't give me the chance to elaborate on who exactly supported a Balanced Budget Amendment ...
