The site of Minturn at the confluence of Gore Creek and Eagle River, Colorado was first settled in the late 1800s. The settlers included farmers as well as miners of silver from the surrounding mountains. The town quickly boomed with the arrival of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in 1887, and by November 1904, Minturn was large enough to be incorporated as a town. The Town of Minturn has since endured/enjoyed many major changes in the local economy over the succeeding years, from the closing of the Gilman Mine and abandonment of rail lines through the town to the opening of the ski resorts at neighboring Vail and Beaver Creek.
