The 2012 Presidential Primary Calendar

The Iowa Caucuses were held Tuesday, January 3, 2012, New Hampshire's Primary was held Tuesday, January 10th, and South Carolina's Primary was held Saturday, January 21st. The Florida Primary will be held Tuesday, January 31st, the Nevada Caucuses will be held Saturday, February 4th, and the Colorado and Minnesota Caucuses will be held Tuesday, February 7th.

In regards to the state's Presidential Primary (versus the state's September general Primary) New Hampshire law stipulates that the Secretary of State can change the date to ensure that the New Hampshire Primary will take place at least seven days before any "similar election" in any other state. The Iowa caucuses are not considered to be a similar election, and in recent election cycles the New Hampshire Primary has taken place the week after the Iowa caucus. Originally held in March, the date of the New Hampshire Primary has been moved up repeatedly to maintain its status as first.

The 2012 Republican National Convention will take place the week of August 27, 2012 in Tampa, Florida, a week before the Democratic National Convention takes place in Charlotte, North Carolina.
