Noteworthy Chris Dodd News:

  • On July 31, 2009, Dodd announced that he would have surgery for an early, treatable form of prostate cancer
  • In June 2009, Dodd revalued his Ireland vacation home in ethics filings at triple what he had previously reported, after buying out a partner whose friend he had helped obtain a pardon from Bill Clinton
  • During the Wall Street financial crisis, Dodd allowed a stimulus bill amendment enabling AIG executive bonuses to pass out of committee, and admitted that he was involved after originally claiming otherwise
  • In July 2008, Dodd championed the soundness of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while being the number one recipient of campaign contributions from those two institutions later bailed out by the government
  • Dodd was at the center of the Countrywide loan scandal, receiving contriubtions and favorable mortgage terms
  • Dodd dropped out of the 2008 Presidential race in January after placing seventh in the Iowa caucuses
  • As a Presidential candidate in 2007, Dodd proposed a corporate carbon tax
  • Dodd served as general chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995 to 1997
  • Dodd authored the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993
  • Dodd and Ted Kennedy were once known as “Playboys of the Western World” after Dodd's 1982 divorce
