NO DUMB QUESTIONS

W.R. Hammons answers your questions regarding writing, running, and everything in between

Question: Where and how do you determine the literary agent who has represented a given book?

Answer: I find the agent using various sources: agent interviews and/or profiles, agents' websites, authors' websites, and, especially, the acknowledgements pages of authors' books (not only is the acknowledgement hard evidence of a relationship, but usually of a good relationship). I always err on the side of caution - i.e., I won't list an author's book as represented by a literary agent unless I have hard evidence of a specific connection between that title and its representative. Authors often change representation during the course of their careers, etc., and I'm not interested in making anybody look stupid (especially me).
