NO DUMB QUESTIONS

W.R. Hammons answers your questions regarding writing, running, and everything in between

Question: What are some of the ways that I can use this information to help get my novel or non-fiction book published?

Answer: First, right away you'll be able to get a sense of the track record of a given agent. Obviously, the more talented negotiator an agent is, the better his or her connections are with the wider world, and the more established he or she is in the literary market, the more he or she can do for you and your literary career.

But a literary agent's spot on the author representation totem pole isn't everything, and you should foremost look for an agent who would be the best fit for you. The titles listed on Bill's List will show you what topics a given agent is interested in: literary agents are, at heart, salespeople to editors, Hollywood producers, etc., and salespeople are most successful selling products (books in this instance) that they would buy and use themselves.

And when you're ready to approach a literary agent with the next blockbuster novel that's a sure bet to be picked up by Hollywood, you can show you've done your homework by mentioning that agent's relevant past clients and/or projects (rest assured that you'll stand out from the pack of wannabee published authors if you do so).
